JFK: President, Legend, Tragedy

Early Life and Political Career

John F. Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was the second son of Joseph P. Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. After graduating from Harvard University in 1940, he began his political career in 1946 with a seat in the House of Representatives. In 1952, he was elected Senator of Massachusetts and won the 1960 presidential election as the Democratic candidate against Richard Nixon.

Presidential Achievements and Personal Tragedies

During his presidency, Kennedy fought for civil rights, supported space missions, and strengthened relationships with Southeast Asia. He prevented a nuclear war during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and advocated for the 1963 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. However, personal tragedies also accompanied him: his brother Joe died in 1944, his sister Rosemary was institutionalized, and his brother Robert was assassinated in 1968. On November 22, 1963, Kennedy himself was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.
